I hold my breath, waiting for a response. It takes another minute or so before the message shows as read and the little bouncing dots appear to show he’s typing back.

My stomach plummets, and my heart feels like it’s being squeezed in a vise.

Rebound: No

I stare at the single word sentence. It’s only two letters, but it speaks volumes. My throat tightens, and my heart thunders in my ears. Is this what heartbreak feels like? I don’t even know him, so it can’t be, can it?
